Jabal Shams Summit Adventure
Jabal Shams, Oman’s highest mountain, reaches an elevation of about 3,009 meters above sea level. Located in the Western Hajar Mountains, the summit hike is a must-do for experienced hikers.
Adventure details:
- Duration: 6 to 9 hours (round trip).
- Difficulty: Moderate to hard – good physical fitness and previous hiking experience required.
- Trail: The hike begins near Sama Height Resort and follows a well-trodden rocky path to the summit.
- Scenery: Stunning views of Wadi Nakhr and the “Omani Grand Canyon” with dramatic cliffs and arid mountain terrain.
- Weather: Cool to cold – particularly early morning or late afternoon. Can get very chilly in winter.
- Safety: Highly recommended to go with a local guide or group, as signage is limited in some areas.
- Gear: Strong hiking boots, appropriate layered clothing, plenty of water, snacks, hat, and sunglasses.
